Notocactus crassigibbus is a small, globular cactus native to southern Brazil. It’s known for its bright green, rounded body and prominent ribs, which give it a bumpy appearance. This species typically has short, stiff spines and can produce striking yellow and pink flowers at the crown of the plant, especially in spring and summer.

🌵 Notocactus crassigibbus Care Guide

🪴 Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect sunlight.

  • Tolerates some direct morning or late afternoon sun.

  • Avoid harsh midday sun to prevent sunburn, especially in hot climates.

đź’§ Watering

  • Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry.

  • Spring to early fall: Water more regularly, about every 10–14 days depending on your climate.

  • Winter: Drastically reduce watering—once a month or not at all if dormant and cool.

🌱 Soil

  • Use a well-draining cactus mix.

  • You can add perlite, pumice, or coarse sand to improve drainage.

  • Avoid soil that stays wet—this species is very prone to root rot.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Thrives in temps between 65–85°F (18–29°C).

  • Can tolerate brief drops to around 40°F (4°C) if dry.

  • Keep it dry in winter if temps fall below 50°F (10°C).

🌼 Fertilizing

  • Feed with a low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer during the growing season (spring–summer), about once a month.

  • Do not fertilize in winter.

🪴 Repotting

  • Repot every 2–3 years or when it outgrows its pot.

  • Spring is the best time. Let the roots dry for a day or two before watering after repotting.

🌸 Flowering

  • Produces bright yellow or pink flowers in spring or summer.

  • Needs sufficient sunlight to bloom.
